Prayer letter #11 July 2019

I had a beautiful time with friends from home, Anna and Joy, who came to visit me back in March

Hey everyone,
It has been a while since my last prayer letter and I just wanted to send an update before we end term with our GBU summer conference, Verano GBU.

This year we are holding the conference in the south of Spain from the 22nd to the 28th of July. We have roughly 135 students from all over Spain signed up to the conference, which is an amazing number of students!!

The theme of the conference this year is “Follow me – from sceptic to disciple” as we study the example of Peter in the gospels. This camp is key as the students go deeper in their relationship with Jesus and for them to be equipped to share the gospel with their classmates. Imparting vision about how God is calling us to make disciples, specifically for the students in their university context, and how to put that vision into practice is one of the main aims of the conference.

I would really appreciate prayer for the final preparations before the conference and also for during it. There are very few staff members this year at the camp (12 in total) and we each have many areas of responsibility to cover. Sometimes it can be hard to be intentional with the students when there are so many of them and so few of us. Please pray that God would use us in our limitations and that in His grace He would go before us.

Praise and prayer points:

Praise God for the number of students who have signed up to the summer conference, many of who it is their first time in Verano GBU.

Please pray for the staff team serving this year. Please pray for stamina, for energy, for us to be intentional with the students and for God to use us in our limitations.

Please pray for the staff and speakers as we give various workshops and training at the conference. I am giving a workshop on the 24th; please pray that God would speak through me and that it would be encouraging and useful for the students.

Praise God for all that He has done this academic year. Although the step up to staff worker has been a challenge at times, I have loved every moment of it and have seen God’s guidance and Him equipping me over the year.

Please pray for a genuine rest this August. I will be back in Belfast for the month and am looking forward to a chance to rest and renew my energy as I relax and catch up with friends and family.

The Mark Drama

The photo above is the team of students who performed in Experimento Marcos – The Mark Drama. Praise God for how it went as the two performances in churches over the weekend were packed out. The performance at the university was not so well attended, despite having had a stand in the main university square and flyering all morning, but some students still came along and enjoyed the performance.

Please pray for all those who came along to the drama and who saw the Gospel of Mark acted out. Please pray that God would continue to work in their hearts and draw them to Him. One of the guys that Mireia and I were reading Uncover John with, came to one of the performances. Afterwards I asked him what impacted him the most and he said that the various parables but especially the parables of the seed that fell on different soil (Mark 4)! Please continue to pray for him and for the seed that has been planted there.

New committee for GBU Barcelona

Back in April we handed over to the new committee for GBU Barcelona. In the photo above (left to right) are Ruxandra, Keila, Marc, Marta and Joana. However, Marc is now going on Erasmus come September and Joana has just graduated, so the committee is down to three. This is going to be a challenge and prayer for these students would be valued as they seek to lead GBU Barcelona in sharing the gospel message with those around them and in the context where God has placed each student. These students are such an encouragement to me; I am constantly being challenged and encouraged by them as they live out their faith in such a secular context. Sometimes ministry can be really tough, but there are also many moments of pure joy as we see God working in ways we didn’t expect.

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
